Hi All

Had a very useful interview with Steve Newlin of Business Gateway in Haddington, where I described my motivation and reasons for infrared photography.  The first of these videos is attached.

Thanks again to Steve Newlin from Business Gateway Scotland for conducting the interview.

Urban and Fine Art Photography from Edinburgh

Hi all

Taking advantage of a quiet week last week to get some stock and fine art photography from my home city of Edinburgh.  Most professional photographers have periods where they concentrate on certain areas of work and as a professional commercial photographer operating around Edinburgh, I try and get as much infrared and urban photography as possible, in addition to selling the work I completed in the summer.  This is sometimes more difficult than it sounds as the weather can be a bit rubbish at this time of the year in Scotland.  However on Friday it was perfect for infrared photography around 10am.  While infrared photographers rightly emphasise sun and trees for dramatic images, you can also add shadows to this equation and they were reflecting brilliantly on on the buildings on Friday, shadows in infrared can result in some dramatic shots, they also work well on grass.  The other aspect of Infrared Photography that is often overlooked, is that you can create realistic black and white images, that are not obviously infrared.  I have sold fine art images to hotels who wanted black and white photography on their walls.  Unless there are trees and grass present it isn’t always obvious they have been taken with an infrared converted camera.  Oh and another essential ingredient in the winter for infrared, beside sunlight, is an interesting sky - see the attached photo.

So as a professional photographer operating in Scotland, I also have some food photography in Edinburgh and a student event photography assignment at the Corn Echange in Edinburgh.

So, until next time.

Kind Regards

Colin Wright

Corporate Photography Scotland in January and the Beginning of the Year

January 14, 2019  •  Leave a Comment

As a professional corporate photographer working in Edinburgh and around Scotland, there are certain times of the year when things can be a bit slow on the event photography side of things and that time is now.  Just after New Year when people have less money and the companies are just getting back on their feet after the holidays, maybe planning their conference or events for March and April.  This can be a challenging time for photographers and all artists for that matter.  This should obviously be a good time for planning for the year ahead, what gear needs updating, which markets you are really going to aim for and how to use Social Media more effectively.  I also use it as a good time to update my training.  last week I went on an SEO course.  i will also be attending another course on Pintrest and Instagram and will be attending network events.

However, I also use this as a time to sell and take stock of my infrared photography prints.  In addition to going out and about, when the sun is shining (I know it's not that often at this time of year), taking infrared photos as part of my Infrared Photography in Scotland project, I also try to market my infrared and landscape work, re-visit the retail outlets in Edinburgh to see what is selling, look at other ways to sell.  I now have an account with Red Bubble     https://www.redbubble.com/people/colinwrig?asc=u
and my prints are selling well - at least the Highland Cow photo is anyway, so its onwards and upwards, next step will be to move towards selling more infrared art prints to hotels, offices and restaurants.  So never stay still, keep moving and before I know it the conferences, wedding photography events in Scotland and the outdoor sport will start again and I will have grown different areas of by business.

So, until next time

All the best.
