Last week I had a  very interesting and enjoyable photoshoot with Penguin Books.  The subject was the opening of a book vending machine at Linlithgow Academy, Linlithgow, West Lothian, with special guest the poet and writer Jackie Kaye.  Jackie was interviewed and she answered questions from the audience from senior pupils at the school.  Then she opened the vending machine.  As a corporate photographer in Edinburgh and Glasgow, I always enjoy photoshoots connected with the arts and Jackie was both interesting and friendly.  Mostly I work as a conference photographer in Edinburgh and Glasgow, so this was a nice change.  I am an avid reader, so I found the day fascinating.  I also happen to think this is a great idea, a book vending machine that can offer reduced priced books for children and adults in the school for that matter.  Further details on the school and the event are on the school website at Linlithgow Academy - Linlithgow Academy (westlothian.org.uk).  I also attach a link to my website with more photos from the day. Colin Wright Photography, Edinburgh and Glasgow conference photographer | Professional Edinburgh corporate and event photographer
 

So as a professional photographer at a PR event, I thought I would look briefly at 5 headings to help you get the important and quality photos that please your clients.

1. Do your homework about the people you will photograph, location, lighting required and the photos your client wants.  It wiill save you time in the long run.

2. Be ready to take some formal posed photos, especially if they are required for newspaper purposes, but try and capture the candid moments and be ready for them at all times.

3. Talk to the people you will photograph beforehand, to help relax them.  It will result in better photos.

4. Find out waht the photos will be used for.  This is important as it affects the kind of photos you will take and it also affects image size, colouring and other aspects later on.

5. Send a variety of photos to your client.  Let them choose from a wide range.  It doesn,t matter if you send them too many, as they will always choose the ones they want.  I usually even send some photos outwith the brief and often they end up using them.
