Why I am an Infrared Photographer in Scotland

February 13, 2020  •  Leave a Comment

Hi Everyone

I have often been asked what got me into infrared and why I like it so much. You may be surprised by some of the reasons, so anyway here they are below:

1. I started shooting infrared in film as a student and always wanted to get back into it.  When converted digital cameras made it more accessible, I couldn't wait to return to the genre

2. You can shoot infrared in bright midday sunshine and still get dramatic results, none of this getting up at 5am for the best shots nonsense

3. Infrared is like film photography, you really don't know what the final result is going to be until you start editing

4. The final results take you to an enchanted place

5. There are no rules, you can go all whacky with the editing if you want to, or you can have a very good contrasty black and white photo with lots of structure

6. it's great fun and a little different from what is out there today, in an environment with millions of photos

7. The results make great fine art photos for exhibition purposes

8. It is a good extra project to have from the more conventional corporate and event photography commissions I do in Edinburgh and around Scotland, although I can also introduce it into my corporate work as an added extra for the client

9. It looks great on social media

10. It gives the world an insight into an entirely different genre of photography

So there you are, an some of the reasons why I am really into infrared photography

Kind Regards

Colin
