For todays blog I am going to look at how a professional photographer working in Edinburgh, Glasgow or around Scotland, can avoid disasters or make sure anything doesn't go wrong for that matter.  As a conference and event photographer, Edinburgh, Scotland, I believe that you have to stay ahead of the game and provide the best photos for the client, there are no excuses and whilst this may seem like a negative post, it may be the best one that any budding professional event and conference photographer will read.  So here we go, my tips for conference photography Scotland continue with the action to take in advance to avoid anything going wrong.

1. You should have an idea of a reserve photographer in the event of serious illness or something else that causes you to cancel.  Do this in advance with a fellow photographer, you can agree to back each other up.  however this should only happen in an extreme emergency, the client booked you and not someone else.  You could stipulate this in the contract where appropriate, this also applies to wedding photographers.

2. Check and re-check all your gear in advance, practice on any new equipment in before the conference photoshoot, don't be panicking on the day when you can't find that new feature on your camera.  Take plenty of spares.  If it can go wrong, it will one day.

3. Check your car, taxi times etc and leave 2 hours earlier than you have too.  Luckily I always do this and a motorway accident one day made me almost 2 hours later than I wanted, but I was still on time,  Also make sure you have an emergency contact number.

4. Check out the venue in advance and asked what you are allowed to do ie with regards to lighting, access etc.  Try to find out good vantage points for photographs.  Nothing should be a surprise on the day when it comes to the venue.

5. Make sure you and the client are clear on what you have to before the event, again you don't want any surprises on the day.

6. Check you have all the necessary insurance ie Public liability and Public Indemnity, not only do you need them in case of any disasters, it also makes you look more professional.

7. Think about what you are going to wear and what is appropriate for the day.  It doesn't have to be a suit and tie but you should look smart ie no jeans or trainers.
