Hi Everyone

A bit late with my blog this week but I have a good reason as I have been affected by Covid 19 in the last 2 or 3 weeks.  After a couple of bad weeks, I appear to have turned a corner and hope to be up and running again in the new year.  As I always do at this time of the year, I like to reflect on the year and look at the highlights as a professional photographer, working as a corporate and event photographer in Edinburgh and around Scotland.  Yes, this has been a very challenging and unique year for us all but it is also important to look at the highlights and aims for the year ahead.  Due to lockdown, I have completed far more personal projects, particularly in infrared and landscape photography and I have also started on my aim to complete an infrared photography book, based on my photos taken around Scotland.  I have also updated by IT equipment, thanks largely to a digital development grant, thanks again to Business Gateway and Digital Boost who funded 75% of the costs, towards the purchase of an iMac and digital event and corporate lens for my Canon camera.  The year also included some supercar events, before the lockdown restrictions and it started with a very interesting whisky event photoshoot in Leith, Edinburgh.  I also had a lot more food photoshoots this year, which was interesting, in addition to a PR photoshoot for the opening of a new supermarket and a great classic car photo commission in East Lothian, so there was plenty of variety even with all the restrictions. I have also completed my first photoshoots wearing a mask, not that easy when you wear glasses.  I have re-ignited my enthusiasm for landscape photography and added new subjects to my infrared image collection, including insects and bees, birds, waves and harbour photography.  Unfortunately, all my conference photography commissions were cancelled after March and I had loads booked this year, although I am hoping to get going in this Line of work next year after we have all been vaccinated.  However, the one thing I am really looking forward to doing is travelling to other locations in Scotland once all the restrictions have been lifted and a trip to Skye is definitely on the cards.  So, onwards and upwards and looking forward to 2021.  Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

HI Everyone

I haven’t taken any photos this week as I have been grounded in the house due to a virus.  With little energy to do much, you can still make use of the time at home to re-assess your strategy for the following year, to determine where things can be changed and what the focus will be for 2021.  Of course this has been a pretty awful year for most of us, but there is still time to plan and look forward.  As a professional corporate and conference photographer working in Edinburgh and Glasgow, Scotland, I have suffered from a huge loss of event and corporate photography commissions and just when things were starting to look up in the summer, it has all gone backwards again.  However, the future looks good with a vaccine on the horizon.  I have also re-appraised my IT strategy and have moved almost exclusively to IMac, following successfully obtaining a Digital Development grant from Business Gateway, for which I very much appreciate. professional corporate I have also decided to focus more on fine art and landscape photography for now until the corporate and event photography industry picks up, probably the beginning of next year.  I am expecting to publish a book on Infrared Photography in Scotland next year and another exhibition is also on the way.  So onwards and upwards, keep positive and look to the future, don’t stand still and keep with the creativity.
