Today we will be looking at the best images for conference photography. As a professional event photographer Edinburgh, Glasgow and beyond, naturally my aim is to provide bespoke high quality event photography photos for my clients. Obviously you will be given a brief and you must supply exactly what the client wants but usually there is scope to demonstrate your individuality and produce some eye catching images that will make your clients more than happy with what you supply for them for their event photography in Edinburgh.

1. Capture all the speakers from different angles, with different expressions on their face and make sure you delete all images that are less than perfect.
2. Make sure you can convey the emotions on the faces of the delegates and speakers. Keep an eye out for these moments where they express joy, surprise and elation, because being a good conference photographer in Edinburgh Scotland also includes capturing unseen moments, so keep eye out for these little bits of action often away from the main speaker.
3. The photographs should be sharp and technically exposed perfectly, with the correct white balance for skin tones, as well as possessing good composition.

I once photographed a conference in Glasgow which mainly consisted of workshops and only one speaker. 5. Make sure you include creative images utilising the props around you, varying your focus point and even including some black and white photographs. As an event photographer in Scotland, I also include some infrared images, showcasing the venue outdoors, particularly if the location is interesting.

So you are looking for an event photographer Edinburgh or Glasgow for your corporate event. So what factors should you be looking at. Today we will explore the essentials for commissioning a professional event photographer in Edinburgh, Glasgow or Scotland. So here we go.
1. Make sure they have conference experience
Check their website to ensure they have photographed conferences and have event photography experience in Edinburgh or glasgow. It would also be helpful if they have previously photographed at the venue you will be using. But first and foremost, check their website for images, have they photographed any high profile delegates or speakers, how long have they been a conference photographer in Edinburgh.
2. Do they photograph other genres.
This is OK as most photographers do a variety of types of photography. However if it seems from their website that they are mainly portrait or wedding photographers, then they may not be the right person. Of course experience in other genres can be useful. I feel my experience as an architecture photographer in Scotland is helpful for conferences, in addition my knowledge and experience as a sports and event photographer is also useful, as well as my newspaper and PR photography experience, which enables me to think fast on my feet. These genres help the conference photographer, however someone specialising in still life jewellery photography for instance, may not be ideal for conference and event photography.
3. Do they appear helpful and knowledgable both on their website and in person when you talk to them.
The ability to work well with a Communications Department and to have a good manner with delegates is essential for a corporate event photographer Edinburgh, Glasgow. Never underestimate the personality of the photographer, now one wants to go back to the days of overbearing wedding pushy photographers.
4. Knowledge of the corporate world is essential for the corporate photographer Edinburgh
This goes back again to previous experience but it is a bit deeper than that. Does the photographer understand the importance of the timing of the event, dealing with keynote speakers. Making sure they deliver the crucial images that the client needs. If the event photographer understands the profession he or she is photographing this is half the battle. This is very much the case for sports photography. I was a better football, athletics and golf photographer in Scotland, as I had played and constantly watched these sports. I had to learn and understand rugby as a sport before I became an accomplished rugby photographer in Scotland.
5. Looking for an event and conference photographer Scotland - what type of photographs do you really want
This is very important as photographers all have different styles. Does the photographer seem to have a style that would be ideal for your company, or are the photos on their website nothing like the ones you want. Do you want formal photos or bespoke reportage conference photography, again the website should help you choose. Just make sure you ask all these questions when you are looking for a conference photographer Edinburgh Scotland.

Hi Everyone
A quick blog today. Thought I would pop along this Saturday for the second half of the Kirkintilloch Thistle friendly game today. As a professional event and corporate photographer Edinburgh Glasgow Scotland, it’s always good to get a bit of practice in. I missed the first half and 6 goals apparently but I still managed a few good sports photographs, including this goal. Luckily I was there before the heavens opened up an hour later.

Today, in this quick blog I will be looking at whether photographers should specialise in one area of work, or pretty much carry out all types of photography. As a conference and event photographer in Edinburgh and Glasgow, I am always asked if I specialise in conference and corporate photography Edinburgh and Scotland and whilst this is my specialist area, I also do fine art infrared and landscape photography in Scotland and a few years back I was a newspaper and PR photographer in Edinburgh and East Lothian. Event photography also means i photograph sports, birthday parties, weddings, university graduations and general award ceremonies etc, so even though I specialise, this covers a wide range of photography. However, I am wary of photographers who say they will do any kind of photography.

There are 2 kinds of photographer, those who thrive on a controlled environment, where they set up the lighting, usually in studio and the photoshoot is organised prior to the event, usually with little surprises on the day. Then there are uncontrolled environment photographers who deal with the conditions on the day, there is often very little control over the lighting and unexpected things can happen on the day. This very much applies to sport and can also apply to other other events such as conference photography and awards ceremonies. I put myself in the second category and while I can and will take posed photographs, I prefer not to do this in a studio environment and like to get the best out of the natural light where possible in a normal environment. In contrast to this, I am an infrared and fine art photographer, although this is also in an uncontrolled environment and the weather can play a large part over the success of the photoshoot. Most photographers in Scotland will do various types of work, but beware of those who say they can do everything and its always best to work with someone who regularly specialises in one area and has plenty of experience. Another example of this is still life photography, very much a controlled environment genre and not for me to be honest, I like the element of surprise.

Hi Everyone
So what equipment do you need as an event photographer in Edinburgh or Glasgow. Well you are going to have to try and keep it light. I personally don’t like to see photographers with enormous telephoto lenses at conferences, it both intimidates the delegates and can be physically impossible for you to be mobile. So here is my top 5 tips for conference photographers in Scotland.
Equipment Tips for corporate event photographers in Scotland:
1. An all purpose lens would be useful ie something like 70-200mm for instance, it’s better for the lens to work well in low light than say a longer telephoto. You can get relatively close anyway as the official conference photographer.
2. Take plenty of batteries and 2 cameras in case one packs in.
3. I suggest keeping flash simple and portable, unless you are taking a lot of posed portrait photos, then you may want to have a separate area with a portable flask and an umbrella or soft box. Otherwise flash with a light modifier would be sufficient but don’t use it all the time.
4. It may be worth taking a wide angled lens for shits of the whole venue, outdoors and indoors.
5. You may want to use a tripod if you are taking official portrait shots but otherwise a monopod my be more appropriate due to space constraints.
