Urban Photography in Edinburgh, Glasgow and throughout Scotland
Hi Everyone
As someone who works in the area of corporate and event photography around Edinburgh, Glasgow and throughout Scotland, it seems trivial just now to display some photos from recent event photography commissions in Scotland, or some urban photography but that is what I will do, as we all need to try and take our minds away from what is happening just now, although our thoughts and prayers go to the people of Ukrain at the moment. Also spare a thought to photographers and journalists out in Ukraine just now. I used to work as a press photographer and have been at the centre of riots and demonstrations but nothing even close to the turmoil that the photographers are feeling in the Ukraine just now.
On a different note, I have been taking a lot more urban photographs recently, particularly as I now live outside Glasgow. i find Glasgow a great place to photograph, as it has a variety of buildings, new and old. it is often used as a film location to mirror cities in the US and you can see why with the San Fransisco looking streets and slopes. I come from Edinburgh and this is an entirely different place to photograph, with a more historic and touristy feel about it. Glasgow has the busy feeling of a real, at times scary, other times beautiful, city. There is also the River Clyde and its wonderful mix of architecture. In addition, I have been doing a lot of infrared photography in the city, to give me that increased dynamic range, structure and drama and Glasgow never lets me down, so without further comment, i will leave you with a photo taken in the city recently.

Stormy Weather and Locations for Landscape and Infrared photography in Scotland
Hi Everyone
As a professional freelance corporate and event photographer in Edinburgh, Glasgow and around Scotland, things are starting to pick up a bit now with event photography and conference photography in Scotland restarting again. I have move nearer to Glasgow now to Kirkintilloch, this gives me some new subjects to photograph, although i do miss the sea. However, I now have loch Lomond and the Campsie Fells.
Recently we have had some really extreme and stormy weather and although this can be challenging and you often have to protect yourself first, there are some great photographic opportunities. I always loved photographing the waves in Dunbar and now have snow and mountains to photograph, in addition to living near a canal on the River Clyde. I also have new cities to photograph in Glasgow and Stirling, so plenty to keep me busy.
I wanted to talk briefly about storms, ie how can you photograph them in relation to still photography, to convey the drama, you could take a photo os flying derbris or people battling their way through the elements, however one of the best things to photograph in a storm is the period just before the big event, where the sky is often dramatic and very changeable. The photo I have featured in this blog shows the sky at Southbank Marina Kirkintilloch just before the big storm we had on wednesday 16th February. The clouds were battling with the sun rays and to add to the photo, my infrared converted camera caught the sun rays effectively to give the image more drama.
So get out there and take photos, but be careful.

Urban Photography Glasgow and Hope for Future Corporate Photography in Scotland
Hi Everyone
As we move into the new year, I have been doing some more urban street photography around Glasgow, while I wait on the corporate and event photography commissions re-starting again in Edinburgh and Glasgow, Scotland. The signs are good that things are starting to pick up again and I expect to get some conference photography enquiries coming in soon. Already there is some movement in the event photography sector in Scotland, with sports events back on again.
Last week I did a short blog on street and urban photography. This week I thought I would touch on another subject close to my heart and that is puddle and water reflection photography - just as well, given that I have now moved to the West of Scotland. The main advice for puddle photography, is to get down low, place your camera on the ground or at a low level on a tripod and fire away. Look for reflections and interesting shapes, use people and cars as your foreground prop. However, be careful, the worse thing I have had happen to me is to get a soaking. Make sure you are not too close to the road and watch out for dodgy people who could nick your gear when you are concentrating on that perfect shot. Usually a wide or ultra wide angled lens is best for this type of photography, but experiment with lenses. Night time puddle photography is good to get some creative light photos, combined with light trails if you take long exposure photos. Finally, just enjoy, it can be a very rewarding and creative genre.
