Hi All

A quick blog with some additional tips for conference photographers.  As a professional corporate event photographer out and about in Edinburgh and throughout Scotland, I photograph a lot of conferences, in fact, this is my specialist area of photography.  In previous blogs, I have provided some tips for conference photography.  This time I will include a few unusual ones, but important never the less.  Here they are:

1. Dress appropriately.  I would say jeans and trainers are not appropriate for a conference photographer.  Just dress smartly, no need for a suit and tie.  Smart shoes and a nice shirt are fine, don't wear too many layers, you will get hot, as you are dashing about all day.

2. Always sound like you know what you are talking about, even if you don't.  Make sure you answer concisely, if asked by the organiser or delegates, don't say "I am not sure I will try that and see what happens"  I once heard a photographer say this, it didn't inspire confidence.

3. Once you have taken the photos, get out of the way and stay out of sight, the delegates are not there to see you.

4. By all means take some business cards, but don't tout for business during the conference, its not very professional.  You can give out cards if asked though.

5. Be careful with your gear.  You may have insurance but its not worth ruining your gear and be careful with the delegates.  I once dropped a flash and thankfully caught it before it landed on a delegates head.  No insurance will help you out in this case, you just wont be asked again.  So I am now very, very careful.
