Corporate Photography Scotland in January and the Beginning of the Year
As a professional corporate photographer working in Edinburgh and around Scotland, there are certain times of the year when things can be a bit slow on the event photography side of things and that time is now. Just after New Year when people have less money and the companies are just getting back on their feet after the holidays, maybe planning their conference or events for March and April. This can be a challenging time for photographers and all artists for that matter. This should obviously be a good time for planning for the year ahead, what gear needs updating, which markets you are really going to aim for and how to use Social Media more effectively. I also use it as a good time to update my training. last week I went on an SEO course. i will also be attending another course on Pintrest and Instagram and will be attending network events.
However, I also use this as a time to sell and take stock of my infrared photography prints. In addition to going out and about, when the sun is shining (I know it's not that often at this time of year), taking infrared photos as part of my Infrared Photography in Scotland project, I also try to market my infrared and landscape work, re-visit the retail outlets in Edinburgh to see what is selling, look at other ways to sell. and my prints are selling well - at least the Highland Cow photo is anyway, so its onwards and upwards, next step will be to move towards selling more infrared art prints to hotels, offices and restaurants. So never stay still, keep moving and before I know it the conferences, wedding photography events in Scotland and the outdoor sport will start again and I will have grown different areas of by business.

Best Gear for Corporate Photography in Edinburgh DSLR or Mirrorless

As we are now into the new year, it is time to set the budget for new gear. I need to replace my main camera for corporate and conference photography assignments in Edinburgh and throughout Scotland. I already have my infrared photography needs sorted, using high end Nikon gear. I have dabbled in mirrorless, using Lumix, which I love for infrared and Fuji, which I really like for urban photography and landscape, but to be honest, I don’t see myself switching to Fuji for my corporate and conference and event photography, it is just not there when it comes to low light photography and focusing. Also sport just doesn’t work well enough due to focussing issues.
So I am opting for a Canon 5D Mark 4. This is a upgrade on my Mark 3, with the added bonus of touch screen focussing, a first for me with a DSLR. All good for the start of the year with 3 Just Eat photoshoot commissions and a graduation event this month. Looking forward to it. So until next time.
