Christmas Blog from professional corporate and event Edinburgh, Colin Wright
Hi All
This is my Christmas blog. I just had a great conference with NHS Education for Scotland at Murrayfield Stadium in Edinburgh with the Health Improvement Team at NES. A great day was had by all with some hilarious presentations from the students who graduated. Although as a professional photographer operating around Scotland, the main aim is always to get great corporate conference photos for the client. i find that this is made easier if you almost join in with the proceedings on the day. I also do this with sport and wedding photography. I immerse myself in the event, almost becoming a guest and this helps me take even better photos. You have to remember why you are there of course and don't overdo the jokes, keep them clean. It's no coincidence that my best wedding photos are from two weddings of my friends, when I was also a guest, enjoying all the festivities, being immersed in the day helped my photography.
Anyway, I thought I would leave you with an infrared photo, because in my opinion infrared photography reminds me of Christmas with the white trees.

Rock Project Concert Edinburgh College, by Corporate Event Photographer Edinburgh Colin Wright
Hi All
A great day was had by all at Edinburgh College on sunday for the Christmas Rock Project concert, bringing together budding young rock stars from Edinburgh, North Berwick, Livingston and Dunfermline. Lots of great recognisable songs, especially good to hear Lithiam by Nirvana, one my favourites. As a professional event photographer from Edinburgh, this is one of my most enjoyable music photography commissions in Edinburgh. The joy on the faces of the children is there for all to see. Its a great idea and this year my own boy Lukas was also featured, so it was special for me. There are different age groups, with the children playing electric guitar, drums or singing. As an event photographer, this is the kind of photoshoots you love, due to the lighting, smoke machines and expressions on the participants faces. My job is to make them all look like cool rock stars and I hope I achieved that.
Anyway, cant wait until next summer, I will leave you with the attached photo in the meantime.

Diversification in Modern Photography for Corporate Photographers in Scotland
Hi All
Today I am going to talk for a little bit on the importance of diversification for photographers. Pre digital, it was often said that photographers should specialise in one area, ie become an expert and be well known for portraits, weddings etc. As a professional photographer operating in and around Edinburgh, I am always on the look out for new types of work. I also don't think you can do absolutely everything, I don't do studio work for instance, but I do think you can vary it a Little. I am a specialist corporate event photographer, operating around Edinburgh and Scotland but I also sell fine art infrared photographs. Here are my reasons for diversification:
1. Doing different types of photography improves the range of skills you have ie using different lenses, indoors and outdoors, different types of clients - it all adds up to more experience.
2. When you do a wedding for instance, I think it helps if you have some sport experience, you can deal with crucial moments and improvise, architecture and portrait photography are both useful skills for weddings and so is landscape photography and conference photography, all these things help you to deal with different situations and help you to improvise. I also offer infrared photography to my wedding customers, which can be a unique selling point.
3. It is a very competitive market, you may feel it getting tight in one particular genre, therefor the ability to rely on other areas of photography can help. I sell infrared photos in Edinburgh and online, which gives me an income to compensate for the loss of outdoor events in the winter.
4. Varying the type of photography you do keeps you fresh and excited about new challenges.
5. Your portfolio will look better and more varied.
