Hi Everyone

I thought I would do a quick extra blog as I am about to upgrade my photographic equipment this weekend.  So what should you consider when choosing to upgrade your gear.  Well the main consideration after whether or not you can afford it should be, do I really need this upgrade or do I just want the latest tech.  If you feel you do need it, then you will hopefully have taken a number of considerations into account.  So what new gear would a conference and event photographer in Edinburgh need.  Well this first sentence has given you a clue.  The main consideration is can I move to another level and improve my photographs by purchasing new equipment.  In my case as a corporate photographer in Scotland, I feel the answer is yes.  I am about to purchase the Canon R6, as it is a vast improvement on the first Canon mirrorless camera, the EOS R, the focussing will improve, as will the ISO performance and there is a vast difference in the frames per second, which will assist me as a sport and event photographer in Scotland.  So, as I mentioned, the main consideration has to be - what will I be using it for.  I could have gone for the EOS 5 with the higher pixelation count but this would only hinder my sports and conference photography due to file sizes and low light performance and speed are very important for event photography.  The other considerations have to be related to size, weight etc.  I am happy, as I get older, to see gear becoming smaller and lighter, the days of having to cart around heavy DSLRs are over thankfully.  Another consideration is your existing lenses.  Although I don't tie myself to any brand and in fact I also use Fuji, Nikon and Lumix cameras, I have mostly Canon lenses and have started to build up some Canon mirrorless lenses, so it makes sense to stick with Canon for my main commissions, I am also very familiar with the menus on Canon cameras. So to summarise, only upgrade if it is required and it is a major improvement on your existing equipment.
