Autumn wedding photography and conference event photographic commissions

Hi All

Although the light has been going recently, for a wedding photographer around Scotland, this has been a really busy time for me, with a big wedding photography commission in East Lothian on saturday, followed by the NHS Education for Scotland conference photography in Glasgow on sunday, one finished late saturday, the other started very early sunday, but I survived and both days went really well. It never fails to amaze me how less tired you get when you are doing something you enjoy, lots of energy and the usual hyper active photographer on both days, mind you I did manage a glass of wine or two on my return on sunday night. The weather was great for the wedding at the Royal Musselburgh Golf Club and I was indoors for the conference photography in Glasgow, while it was raining outside. The Hilton Hotel was the venue, staff were great and its a perfect location for conference photography, because as all event photographers know, when indoors, its all about light. Cameras have improved dramatically in low light recently but they cant work miracles and often you still require flash.

The wedding was most enjoyable, Linzi and Michael were great and with Linzi having a permanently beaming happy smile all day, it made my job a lot easier, photo attached. I also had the opportunity to do some infrared wedding photography, as part of the service and a few of these photos have been added to my website, infrared photography and cars go really well and classic cars are a great way to display infrared work.

I also have another event photography commission coming up in Edinburgh this thursday, some bunjee jumping event photography, supercars and lots more, so thankfully no signs of a quiet start to the winter

Autumn Weddings in East Lothian

Hi All

Just had a fantastic wedding at the weekend. As a wedding photographer in Scotland, you cant expect warm weather at this time of the year, but you can at least hope for some dry weather and sunshine if possible, also we are getting near that time of the year when the leaves on the leaves on the trees are starting to change colour, a must for all landscape and weddings photographers. I just photographed a wonderful wedding at the weekend for Gemma and Craig at Ravelston House, Musselburgh and although it was pretty cold, it never rained and we got some fantastic wedding photos. As a professional event photographer carrying out assignments around Edinburgh and Central Scotland, I just love the opportunity to take candid shots. Whilst I will always take a number of formal posed images, my main aim is to circulate amongst the bride and groom and the guests and just capture these special moments. Here are a few tips for reportage photography:

1. Establish a relationship with the guests, have a laugh, get to know them, this will make it easier to take candid photos.

2. Always keep alert to situations, that time when you want to chill out and relax and put your camera down may be the best candid shot

3. Shoot in colour but be aware of light which will look good in black and white format

4. Children are great candid subject for wedding and event photography

5. Watch out for these emotional moments

6. You can always crop, so don't lose a photo just because there are some distracting objects or people in the foreground

Supercars and Weddings all in a Days Work for a Professional Photographer

Hi All

Just finished some Supercar photography at East Fortune, a great day with cold but pretty good weather. As a professional photographer in and around Edinburgh, the outdoor days are drawing to a close and I have some conferences and internal photography commissions to look forward too. Still doing some infrared photography, although this is a bit limited at the moment with the light failing but there are always opportunities for infrared photography in Scotland and the UK, even when the trees fall.

I thought I would introduce a Tips for the Day for conference and event photography, starting today. Here are the first 3.

1. Preparation, is almost as important as the photoshoot, charge batteries, prepare all your gear, two of everything, sort out your travel arrangements and here is the best bit of advice - imagine the scenarios where things can go wrong and what action will you take. ie car breaks down etc.

2. Get to know the venue, for lighting, vantage points for shooting, where you can leave your gear.

3. Plan out in advance the shots you will take and the timing ie which lens will you use and when. Think about these decisions in advance.
