Event Photographer Edinburgh About Town at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival
Hi Everyone
Another interesting photoshoot at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival for a Polish Theatre company for the performance of Carmen Funebre at Pleasance at the EICC at the weekend. A wonderful gripping performance full of emotion and action for that matter, I wish I could dress up in a scary outfit on stilts, very athletic and moving. As a professional photographer in Scotland, it is always a real pleasure to photograph theses events, especially at a venue such as the EICC, where I am usually working on a conference photography commission. The event was outdoors and at night, so no infrared photography opportunities. Luckily it didnt rain, the lighting was very challenging for photographers, but at least you were up close with the performers (I nearly had a stilt leg crush my hand). Lots of fire, tears and action and the crowd loved it. Its been a good year for me so far photographing events at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, hope I have more opportunities in the final week.
Anyway, until next time, I better prepare for a conference event photography commission in Glasgow.

Supercars and Infrared Event Photography all in one Day
Hi Everyone
I was photographing a Supercar event at the weekend and whilst it can be long hours and hard work, it is really fairly enjoyable and the team I work with are a good bunch. Now, whilst I was there to do motor sports photography, as a professional photographer from Edinburgh, I am always on the lookout for infrared photography opportunities and on Saturday in particular, the cloud formation was outstanding, so I decided to take a few infrared photos from my vantage point in the middle of nowhere. There were also some opportunities to take a few shots of the cars. I try to do this with every outdoor commission I have, I offer the infrared photography to the clients and they always love the results. Unfortunately I can't offer the infrared service for my indoor Edinburgh conference photography clients, I do plan, however to include it in many of my event photography assignments in Scotland and architecture photography commissions and I could do a corporate photography group photo outdoors. I have also included it in my wedding photography, but as you can imagine, I have to pre warn clients that it is all weather dependent, it has been great this summer but not today, it's. chucking it down. But who knows, the sky is the limit, I have done some infrared football photography, Festival Fringe Performers, Portraits, motor sport, the list is endless

Event Photography at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival

Its that time of the year again, where professional photographers living in Edinburgh have great opportunities to get some good stock event event photography images from the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, or just as a means of practicing your craft. I love it, but I must admit is becoming harder by the year due to the crowds and the number of photographers. Nowadays more people have digital cameras and many have really expensive gear and I am not just talking about the professionals here. I have noticed with the increasing numbers some do's and dont's and here is my opinion for what it is worth. It is a free country and professional photographers done have more priority than other photographers, unless they have been hired by the photographer and only then should they be able to prioritise their position. No matter how hard you want a photo, you have no given right to shove to the front, there are other photographers and people watching, especially children. Don't keep asking them to pose, the performers will do this if they want to. If you have taken loads of photos, offer to send them copies and get an email address and the final one and this one never fails to amaze me every year - try not to use long intimidating lenses, there is no space and it intimidates the performers. Nowadays there are alternatives and mostly we aren't shooting in low light. OK so that my grump for the day. So whats on this week, more corporate event photography in Edinburgh, a headshot photography commission in Glasgow and I will be trying out my new Nikon D800 in infrared, photo attached, as part of my infrared photography in Scotland project.

Infrared Photography Edinburgh and Beyond

What weather, wow. This time of the year is usually quiet for conference photography in Edinburgh, and other corporate photoshoots, due to the holiday season, so I tend to do other stuff. I was photographing a motor sport event at the weekend, which was good fun, but I have decided to talk about infrared photography. I went to Edinburgh on friday, on what I felt was the hottest day in the city I can remember, although there may have been hotter ones, I am getting older. This type of heat and bright sunshine does not lend itself to good photography normally, but for infrared, it is ideal. The stronger the sun the better and if it is closer to midday, even better, so friday was ideal. I also went a bit daft on the post processing for one or two of the shots. Infrared photography can be a bit like photography on drugs, especially the colour stuff. So I hope you enjoy the photos I have added to my site, one of them is attached to this blog. of course, you can also keep it fairly conventional in black and white, which gives you a fairly contrasty image, one that is very difficult to achieve with normal black and white photography. The photos are from the Festival Wheel at the centre of Edinburgh and the Scott Monument, scene of a scary engagement photoshoot I had last year.
Anyway, a busy week awaits, with some corporate headshots in Glasgow, followed by wedding photography in East Lothian at the weekend.
