Hi All
A quick blog today on corporate photography headshots. Often when out and about photographing corporate events in Edinburgh, I am often asked to do a headshot of one of the participants. Or I can be asked to the company location. Here are my do's and dont's
Do try and utilise the background of the subject ie at their desk, or with the company logo behind them
Find out the purpose of the shot ie is it for Social Media, or is it for a brochure, you only need head and shoulders at the very most for a Linkedin image
Do take extra gear
Do take a variety of flash equipment especially if it is your first time at the location
Focus on the eyes
Keep speaking to your subject to keep them relaxed
Take some shots without flash
Keep an eye on the detail ie collar is not straight etc
Try something new, I have photographed headshots in front of graffiti and even done an infrared photography, with Edinburgh in the background
Don't rush the shoot
Don't have one specific style of flash and stick to it all costs, you never know what the location will bring
don't take hundreds of shots when only one will be used, it gives the impression you are making lots of mistakes
Don't try only one posed position
Anyway, of to my corporate photoshoot headshot commission in Edinburgh, followed by some newspaper photography at the weekend
See you later
Kind Regards
Colin

Hi All
A quick blog from my visit to the rugby at Dunbar yesterday. I have been using the impressive Fuji 100-400mm lens on my Fuji XT2 recently and will decide soon whether to go back to my Canon gear for sports. As an event photographer in Edinburgh, I am always looking for new gear and I love using the Fuji XT2 for conferences and corporate photography in Edinburgh and Scotland, but will it match up for newspaper photoshoots in Edinburgh. I have been trying the 100-400mm on my XT2 for sport recently and here is my verdict very quickly and in plain English.
Image Quality - excellent, sharp images at 100mm to 400mm, although dropping a little at 400mm, to be expected
Focusing - Lets you down a little, doesn't always focus on the moving image, even when the set accordingly in the menu
Speed - Cant react quickly to rapidly changing viewpoints, still processing previous images
Viewfinder - Maybe its just me but I find the electronic viewfinder a bit confusing whilst doing sport
Overall, it is a great lens and may work better in other sports ie I have only tried in in rugby and football. Image quality and build are great, it just doesn't respond quickly enough for me at the moment and I would be reluctant to rely on this camera and lens for a big important sports commission. However, a great camera and lens for all other purposes ie event, corporate and landscape.
Anyway, until next time, I will leave you with a shot from yesterday.
Kind Regards
Colin

Hi All
It's great being an Edinburgh photographer in this weather. I had an interesting photoshoot during the week when I had a bit of time, the day after my corporae event headshots photoshoot in NHS Education for Scotland, I went up the Pentlands with my infrared camera and my Fuji. It was the infrared photos that worked well. I had to trudge through snow but it was well worth it, with magnificent views at the top and an interesting encounter with some highland cows, although one of them looked as if it was going to charge me at one point. Due to the cold weather, I had a very short time to take photos and this is where preparation and experience come into play, you can't spend time grappling with the settings on your camera when it is ice cold, you must have a strong vision of what you are going to do well in advance of the photoshoot.
Anyway, next week more corporate event photography in Edinburgh and a corporate photography commission in Glasgow.
Until next time, here is a wee shot of my highland cow friend.
Kind Regards
Colin

Hi All
Last week I had a conference photography assignment in Edinburgh and more landscape photography around Scotland, particularly infrared photography, to build on my Infrared Photography in Scotland Project. However this week I am going to talk briefly about corporate headshots In Edinburgh, this is a service I provide for companies and I will be doing a headshot photoshoot for NHS Education for Scotland, one of my main corporate event photography clients in Edinburgh. Although I have invested in lighting and backdrops, I sometimes think it can be better to utilise the natural background more often, using the backdrop props which tell you something about the organisation, it's also important to keep a similar background for each member of staff, this looks so tidier on their website and gives a more professional appearance. Often the corporate logo can feature, or the type of work the employee does. The only exception to the rule of consistency applies to the Chief Executive, this should reflect their character and can vary from the rest of the staff.
Anyway until next time, I will leave you with one of my favourite corporate shoots, not just a headshot but a corporate image all the same.
Kind Regards
Colin
