Although it is acknowledged that we as photographer have a variety of specialisms, or maybe one or two, the best way to create a unique image is to think  with several photographic hats on.  As a corporate event photographer in Edinburgh and around Scotland, I often find myself on a photoshoot for one purpose but also drawing on other disciplines.  I have often used infrared equipment for my architecture and event photography commissions around Edinburgh and one of the things I like about having a dual identity ie corporate event photography and fine art photography, is the ability to mix them both in, then present the client with an extra photo or two which they invariably love.  You are also able to use skills from one genre to the other and it gives you flexibility and a good USP.  For instance, on this photoshoot of the Union Canal in Edinburgh, I decided to add a few infrared photos and then to draw on my College project of puddle photography.  I have even used infrared for sports photography, landscape (often to create realistic black and white landscape images) and weddings.  In fact any outdoor commissions, I will usually try a bit of infrared.  So don't be constrained, switch the genre now and again.
